WordPress 101: How to add plugins to your site (and why you should)

Plugins extend the functionality of your WordPress site, helping you add features without needing to know how to code. In this post, I’ll show you how to install plugins on your WordPress site and explain why they’re useful.

What are plugins?

Plugins are small pieces of software that add features to your WordPress site. They can do anything from improving security to adding contact forms or optimising your site for search engines. Plugins are an easy way to enhance your site’s functionality.

Installing a plugin

To install a plugin, log in to your WordPress dashboard and navigate to the “Plugins” section. Click “Add New,” and you’ll be taken to a directory where you can search for the plugin you need. Once you find one you like, click “Install Now” and then “Activate.”

Configuring your plugin

After activation, most plugins will either work out of the box or come with settings you can adjust. To access these, find the plugin’s menu under the “Settings” tab or in a new section it may have added to your dashboard.

Keep your plugins updated

Plugins require regular updates to stay compatible with WordPress and improve security. When you see an update notification in your dashboard, click “Update Now” to keep everything running smoothly.
